I am so ready to be in Compton right now.... only one more hour till my dad drives me over to the Salvation Army. Packing really was not to stressful- since I am the worst packer I know this is huge!
I have checked and double checked to make sure I have everything I need: sweatshirt, sunblock, a plethora of bobby pins, bubbles and chalk for the kids, card making supplies, new journal, a humble heart, and no red or blue clothing.
That is right, I have just packed the most un-patriotic suitcase of my life and I am not even leaving the States! In Compton the most prominent gang colors are blue and red so I made sure not to pack any of that. Instead the colors in my suitcase look like a happy sunrise.
I find this fascinating, it seems to reflect my prayer for Compton: That the love of Christ would shine down and the kingdom of God would reign.
Mmmm right now I have those excited-nervous-happy-bouncing jitters in my stomach. I love those things! And I love adventures with God!

This summer I am livving at the Salvation Army in Compton California with over a dozen other college students. Here we will engage in an urban mission experience through Campus Crusade for Christ. The plan is to serve the people of Compton through a variety of work projects and ministries. My prayer is that I learn to radically love my neighbor.
